Tyres carry your car everywhere. They can add upto 10% of your fuel bill. If under inflated, low tyre pressure makes the tyre flex excessively thereby varying unwanted rolling resistance, which means more power for less distance travelled. I love to drive in low gears. Is it OK? |
Too lazy to change gear? Driving in lower gears than what is required for a particular speed range makes your car a fuel guzzler. For fuel efficient driving the first rule is to drive in correct gear. Eg. in case you are driving at 50 kmph, you improve fuel efficiency by 20-25% in the 5th overdrive gear as compared to driving at the same speed in 3rd gear.

Why should I turn off the engine at every red light ? It's inconvenient, isn't it ?

It is inconvenient no doubt, but then idling the car is making a small hole in your purse! If you keep the engine running while waiting for somebody, loading or unloading, or while being stopped by congested traffic or signals, your car keeps losing around one kilometer of travel for every three minutes of idling. So... think it over.

He is very right. Do not drive with your foot resting on the clutch pedal. This will cause clutch slippage resulting in more fuel consumption and premature clutch wear or damage. |
